About Heidi
Heidi and I have been down the road together. I have never sat on a horse with more heart and try. I bought her as an untouched three-year-old out of a pasture of 100 mares. She just spoke to me, and I am beyond blessed that she did.
We made seven trips to Colorado to push cattle in the mountains, completed a 25-mile limited-distance endurance ride, and roped enough heels that I consider her a certified heeler! I can’t imagine how many trail miles we put behind us.
Then there were our cow-catching adventures. Once, I roped too deep on a heifer that weighed as much as Heidi did. Heidi didn’t complain. We couldn’t stop that heifer, but we slowed her down long enough for our friends to catch her.
Another time, we were flying across a frozen pasture catching cows when we hit a patch of ice that lasted three strides. I’ll never forget it—we were like Bambi on ice, with legs going everywhere! Somehow, we came out the other side still standing and kept trucking. Good times!
We also showed in AQHA, ARHA, and other associations, trying just about anything we could do together. Heidi loves to cut and is so smart about a cow. I think she would have loved pursuing working cow horse, but I wasn’t in a place to take it further. She had more to offer than I was able to show.
Heidi retired sound from riding at 18. In my heart, she is still the mare I could climb on bareback, go jump the moon, and run down a crazy cow. Heidi was always game—and those years together are a big part of what makes her so special to our family and our breeding program.
If you can’t tell, I love my girl.
Pedigree Highlights
Heidi is by Zanalyst, a son of Taris Catalyst out of Sparkles Suzana, whose pedigree brings in Zan Parr Bar and Diamonds Sparkle. Zanalyst has sired barrel money earners and AQHA point earners, including Taris Genuine Rocket, a Dixie National Stock Show Junior Youth Barrel Racing and Stake Racing Champion. Another offspring, MS Peppy Z Dulce, placed fourth in ARHA World Junior Reining.
Her grandsire, Taris Catalyst, earned $328,241 and was an NCHA Open Futurity Co-Reserve Champion and AQHA World Champion Junior Cutting Horse. That performance heritage complements what we have treasured in Heidi herself: the heart, willingness, and versatility to tackle so many different jobs.
